Jakob Martin

Hello. My name is Jakob Martin and I am currently an undergraduate marketing student at West Virginia University, graduating this December. When I graduate I plan to take sometime to plan for my future and truly prepare for a career in marketing. I eventually plan to pursue a career in medical sales in the bottom half of West Virginia's counties in order to hopefully tackle the drug problem. The opioid crisis is a serious problem in the southern part of the state and I think that my skills will prove useful in fighting this epidemic. I have a lot of connections in that industry in order to help me get my door when I decide to join the medical sales profession.


I started classes at West Virginia University in the fall of 2015 and will graduate with a major in marketing in December of 2018. I have been very fortunate to have taken many marketing classes at WVU that expanded my knowledge of the subject. For Example, one class that I got to experience and learn from was product development. This class was all about the process a product may go through before it even hit the market. Another class was consumer behavior, here I learned about how companies can target the subconscious of the consumer in order to figure out the best way to sell. One other class I took was sales management, here I was able to learn how to manage an entire sales team, this class really helped me understand how to manage different personalities.


I have also had the opportunity to work on several projects while here at West Virginia University. I have completed a management simulation where I took on the role as sales manager and had to manage a whole sales team. In this simulation you had to make every decision about your teams, their sales routes, their salaries, their bonuses and more. I have also created a children's board-game designed to teach them educational facts while still being entertaining and interesting. We were able to succeed on our goals and delivered a product that met the needs of our consumers. Finally, I have worked on a Glo-Bus team simulation where we takeover a drone company after year 5. Our goal is to grow the company for many years while now making new decisions over 4 markets (North America, Euro-Africa, Latin-America, Asia-Pacific) and revamping the company to our choice.


Through the knowledge I've gained in my studies and with my hard-working and passionate personality I feel like I can make a huge difference in the southern part of the state. Thank You for reading my blog, please contact me if you would like to get to know more about me.
