JUUL: The E-Cig Epidemic

JUUL, a popular e-cigarette/vaping company that has gained a huge following over the past several months. Due to going viral on social media JUUL has seen their profits and market share skyrocket. JUUL and other vaping devices have been popularized recently as a safer alternative to cigarettes even though science doesn't necessarily back this up yet. These products appeal more to consumers because of the flavor juices that they use such as Cool Cucumber, Mango, and Mint. These flavors and vaping trends have currently infected the teenage market even though they cannot purchase these products legally. There has been a huge growing concern about the amount of underage users getting their hands on these products and getting addicted to nicotine. On Wednesday, November 7 the FDA announced they will be cracking down on JUUL and and other flavor juices. They have announced that these companies will no longer be allowed to sell certain flavors in retail stores. Consumer's now must go online and go through multiple barriers to confirm their age. JUUL and other e-cig companies will also only be allowed to sell tobacco flavored products in retail store. I personally feel like these changes will help make a difference. I also believe JUUL and the other companies should use their advertising efforts to promote their devices as alternatives to cigarettes instead of looking for a "cool". I believe proper education will be the best thing to help cut down on the teenage smoking epidemic.
